Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) involves the dentist being guided to identify areas covered by bacterial plaque during professional dental cleaning. Before starting the cleaning procedure, the biofilm is highlighted using a staining solution. This makes the bacterial plaque visible and easier to remove both above and below the gum line.
What are the benefits of the GBT method?

Essentially, before the cleaning begins, the biofilm (which is responsible for cavities, peri-implantitis, and periodontal infections) is more easily identified using a staining solution. This innovative method simplifies the removal of bacterial plaque both above and below the gumline.
It is worth mentioning the fact that, unlike traditional cleaning methods, GBT starts with the Airflow procedure rather than scaling. This approach makes any remaining tartar much more noticeable and easier for the dentist to remove, resulting in a perfectly executed professional cleaning.

This innovative treatment takes approximately 30 minutes, and for maximum efficiency, EMS Switzerland recommends following the GBT protocol through 8 essential steps:
- DIAGNOSIS: Clinical evaluation of each patient individually.
- REVEALING: A colouring solution is applied to make the bacterial plaque easily visible both above and below the gum line. The guidance provided by identifying the coloured areas is beneficial for the dentist not only in performing the professional cleaning treatment but also in showing the patient which areas they should focus on during their at-home oral hygiene routine.
- MOTIVATION: This stage involves increasing the patient’s awareness regarding dental hygiene. The dentist provides personalized guidance on improving the at-home cleaning process, whether through refining brushing techniques or incorporating complementary dental hygiene products such as electric toothbrushes with vibrations or oral irrigators.
- AIRFLOW®: This involves the application of a powder based on sodium bicarbonate, Erythritol PLUS, which will easily remove bacterial plaque, stains, and early tartar both above and below the gum line. Our dentist will also remove bacterial plaque present on the gums, tongue, and palate.
5. PERIOFLOW®: This stage involves removing bacterial plaque from periodontal pockets using the PERIOFLOW® handpiece, whose flexible and soft tip helps the powder reach the base of the tooth roots—penetrating deep pockets in natural teeth, root furcations, and implants.
6. PIEZON®: Any remaining tartar is removed using PIEZON®PS, an instrument that eliminates tartar above and below the gum line up to 10 mm, or PIEZON®PI, for cleaning around implants and prosthetic restorations.
7. CONTROL: In this stage, the dentist at Deos Dental performs a final check to identify any remaining bacterial plaque and ensures that all tartar has been completely removed. This allows for an accurate diagnosis of caries and, if deemed necessary by the dentist, the application of fluoride treatments on a perfectly cleaned surface.
8. RECALL: Based on the assessment of each patient’s dental risk, the dentist establishes the frequency of maintenance procedures through professional cleaning and schedules the next check-up visits with the patient. I’m Dr. Felicia Păduraru, a passionate dental implantologist, laser expert, and dedicated trainer.

With over 11 years of hands-on experience, I have transformed the smiles of more than 2,500 patients and successfully completed over 1,750 arches using cutting-edge laser-assisted dental implants. I specialize in complex periodontal (gum) diseases, having effectively treated more than 1,380 such instances, and I pride myself on achieving outstanding results.
My educational journey began at the esteemed Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, where I earned my degree in Dental Medicine. Later, I obtained my diploma in Implantology and further pursued a Master’s degree in Oral Implantology at the Guillermo Marconi University in Rome, Italy. My quest for excellence didn’t stop there—I completed a second Master’s degree in Implantology through the accredited program of the gIDE Institute at Loma Linda University in Los Angeles, USA.
To effectively share the knowledge I have acquired with my dental colleagues, I became an accredited trainer recognized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity.
Given that 8 out of 10 Romanians experience some form of periodontal (gum) disease, I chose to explore this topic further and completed a Masterclass in periodontal surgery, guided by esteemed experts in the field of global dentistry.
Recognizing that medical education is a continuous journey essential for providing effective and up-to-date treatments, I make it a priority to attend annual courses on current topics related to implantology and laser technology in both specialized and general dentistry, including the Sky Fast & Fixed system.
I am also a speaker at the annual Lite Touch Conference, where I share my expertise on various applications of the Lite Touch Er. Yag Laser in daily dentistry. My presentations encompass a range of topics such as clinical courses on Er. Yag lasers, principles and practical applications in dentistry, and innovative approaches to surgery, implantology, and periodontology, so forth and so on.
For me, the Hippocratic Oath holds profound significance; I view it as a guiding principle in my work. My ultimate goal is to promote health and happiness among my patients, and each smile I help create, brings me a deep sense of fulfilment, in line with our motto: “Smile, Love, Live Deos!”
